Phoenix International Raceway
125 South Avondale Blvd
Phoenix, AZ 85353

The Phoenix International Raceway is a one mile tri-oval race track located in Avondale, Arizona. It opened in 1964 as the new home of major open-wheel racing in the Phoenix area, and in 1988 it hosted its first NASCAR NEXTEL Cup event.

Today, Phoenix International Raceway has a tradition that is unmatched in the world of racing. The Indycars have made 58 visits to PIR, and the annual Fall NASCAR weekend -- including NASCAR NEXTEL Cup, Busch, Craftsman Trucks and Featherlite Southwest Series races -- is one of the biggest events in the entire state. As a matter of fact, the Checker Auto Parts 500 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race is arguably the largest one-day sporting event in Arizona.

In 2004, Phoenix International Raceway unveiled a state-of-the art night lighting system that is showcased every spring when the NASCAR stars make their first of two visits to the Phoenix Internetional Raceway.

Another notable feature of Phoenix International Raceway is the presence of the "Hillside", a fan favorite viewing area located on Monument Hill located just outside of turn four. Race fans can purchase general admission access to the hillside where they can bring oversized and hard coolers, lawn chairs, and canopies and enjoy the race from a unique vantage point.

Traffic
Traffic guidelines and patterns have been developed through a cooperative process between PIR, local law enforcement, and other governmental agencies. Due to unforeseen circumstances, routes and patterns may need to be changed. The guidance of law enforcement personnel must be followed at all times to ensure a smooth flow of traffic. Traffic information is available on your car radio at 530AM. This information frequency is available on I-10 beginning at 99th Ave. and is brought to you by the Arizona Dept. of Transportation. Call 888.411.ROAD or 511 for updated Arizona Roadway Information.

TOP 5 TRAFFIC TIPS

  • Leave early - We have found this to be the most important tip we can make to allow everyone to park and be in their seats for pre-race ceremonies.
  • If you have been issued a PIR parking pass, be sure to follow the specific guidelines printed on the back of the pass. Some parking passes have special routes that differ from general parking routes. Display your parking pass before you arrive at PIR!
  • Follow the guidelines in this guest guide. Avoid Avondale Blvd. or directions provided by any other source!!
  • Traffic tip - Watch for message boards on valley freeways.
  • Traffic tip - Use the Cricket Pavilion Park-N-Ride!!!!

NOTE - You will notice that our traffic plan, which requires your cooperation, asks that you approach the facility utilizing Vineyard and Indian Springs Rd. from the west. This makes access to all parking areas a right turn rather than a left turn across traffic and is important to maintain the smoothest flow of traffic on race day. Thank you for your assistance.
